Construction Management Club hosts annual career fair, golf outing

Posted on Wednesday, October 17th, 2018

A Department of Technology highlight event each year, the University of Northern Iowa Construction Management Club Career Fair and fifth-annual golf outing returned to campus on Oct. 4-5, 2018.

The events, hosted by the leadership and members of the UNI Construction Management club, highlight the construction management program at UNI and allow members of industry, as well as alumni, to connect with future members of the construction industry.Construction Management Career Fair

“Each year, I hear better and better things about our career fair,” said UNI Construction Management Club President, Will Poffenberger.  “Contractors love how easy it is to find students they are interested in rather than in a large university-wide career fair.”

Over 30 companies within the construction industry were on hand to connect with UNI students, faculty and staff during the career fair portion of the event.  Following lunch, companies conducted interviews with students looking for internship, part-time and full-time opportunities.

“Students love it because it is so easy to get a job,” continued Poffenberger.  “The hardest part is finding the right company!”

The club then hosted its fifth-annual Construction Management Club Golf Outing on Friday, Oct. 5th at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls.  Although the weather wasn’t ideal for a golf tournament, the tournament continued its annual tradition of providing a great opportunity to network with members of industry.

“The golf outing is a great way for contractors and students to meet in a different setting rather than in the office,” added Poffenberger.  “It’s just a fun event to meet new people and make connections.”

The construction management program at UNI is one of the most unique programs on campus, and one of the only programs of its kind in the state of Iowa.  The program has experienced 100% job placement over the last four years, and is on pace to continue that streak for a fifth consecutive year.  To find out more about the program, please visit
