On Thursday, April 13th, UNI Construction Management and Interior Design students took a field trip to the Masonry Institute of Iowa. While there, students learned how brick, block and engineered stone are manufactured and the details needed to properly place the materials on a construction site. After touring the site, students were given two hours to lay brick fire pits according to their personal designs, and then were judged according to creativity, accuracy of bricklaying, their use of materials, and the final appearance. The top three winning teams received certificates, and the winning team received sweatshirts. It was a fun and informative day for everyone!
